5 things Messi would be thankful for if he celebrated Thanksgiving
5 things Messi would be thankful for if he celebrated Thanksgiving By Roger Gonzalez/ Soccer Writer November 26, 2015 09:22 AM ET Thanksgiving is here, and while we all have and endless list of the things we are thankful for, what about some of theworld's biggest soccer stars? Sure, Thanksgiving is mainly just in the United States and Canada (second Monday in October), and it isn't celebrated in Argentina, but what would Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi be thankful for if he celebrated Thanksgiving? Well, here you go.
1) Recovering from his injuryMessi isn't a player who has had to deal with a lot of injuries in his career, somissing two months with a knee injurywas pretty signficant. Soccer just didn't feel quite the same without the opportunity to watch Messi on the weekends. Now fully recovered, it's safeto sayhe has gotten his form back. Andhe will be thankful for a full recovery.
2) Luis Suarez and NeymarSuarez and Neymar were simply stunning during Messi's absence, and for that he is surely thankful. Neymar is No. 1 in La Liga with 12 goals, while Suarez is No. 2 with 11, with many of the goals during Messi's absence. Now with Messi back, the team should be even better, evident by the 10 goals scored in the last two matches. And being on the pitch allows Messi to see Suarez dothings like this.
3) Lucas BigliaArgentina's World Cup Qualifying campaign was 90 minutes away from being a disaster had the team lost to Colombia on Nov. 17. But it was Lucas Biglia, Argentina's veteran defensive midfielder, who scored his first international goal and the winner in the 1-0 win against Colombia. For that, Messi is thainkful. It was a big boost to the qualifying campaign, where Argentina had struggled without Messi.
4) Suarez's gift givingSuarez does more than just give Messi assists,he gives him a nice pair of pajamasto wear on Thanksgiving morning. How kind.
5) Pele for picking him as the world's bestMany consider Pele, the Brazilian legend, to be the world's best player ever.So when he says Lionel Messi is the best in the world, better than Cristiano Ronaldo, it's a pretty big deal.
